Monarch Hydraulics Selects Workgroup Technology Collaborative PDM To Streamline Product Release

WTC Solution Chosen for Strong Integration Product Suite and Successful Customer Implementation History

BURLINGTON, Mass., June 18, 2002 — Workgroup Technology Corporation (WTC) (NASDAQ: WKGP), a leading provider of collaborative product data management (PDM), today announced that Monarch Hydraulics, a leading producer of fluid power solutions, has selected WTC's ProductCenter™ collaborative PDM solution to automate product lifecycle processes and information to accelerate time-to-market of its products. ProductCenter, primarily chosen for its history of quick, successful deployments and on the strength of its ProductCenter SolidWorks Integrator, is projected to provide Monarch Hydraulics a conservative estimated savings of $125,000 annually in data access time alone. It will also provide a major benefit by helping the company transition from a 2D to 3D design environment.

"We were paper-based and plagued with islands of information scattered throughout the corporation," said Brad Fluit, Monarch engineering systems administrator. "We were moving from 2D to 3D and needed a way to better manage our 3D CAD files, and to make this and all associated product data accessible, current, and in-sync. That's when we turned to ProductCenter."

ProductCenter is being deployed to support over 100 users throughout Monarch. It will be used to consolidate disparate product data resources and to automate Monarch's version/release control, engineering work requests (EWR), and engineering change notice (ECN) processes through ProductCenter™ Workflow.

In support of Monarch's objectives, ProductCenter™ SolidWorks Integrator will consolidate 3D computer-aided design (CAD) resources, and legacy 2D and other product data. It will enable users to gain benefit from collaborative PDM capabilities, to access all associated data, and to manage reviews, data package assembly, approvals, and status checks directly from within SolidWorks. ProductCenter™ GenView was also selected to replace a dated DOS-based find/view/print application in use at the company, which could no longer be updated. GenView will automate the creation of viewable files to maximize information accessibility from any platform and to streamline communications.

Fluit further commented on their evaluation process and progress to date, "Our criteria for selecting a PDM solution was that it had to integrate well with SolidWorks and deploy readily, which is where ProductCenter really excels. We're well underway with our ProductCenter deployment in just a week. It implements, works, and delivers. What more can you ask for?"
