Douglas Machine Selects ProductCenter Collaborative PDM On Strength of SolidWorks Integration

Leading Packaging Equipment Supplier Selects ProductCenter to Streamline Product Data Access and Control

TEWKSBURY, Mass., January 8, 2003 — Workgroup Technology Corporation (WTC), a division of SofTech, Inc. (OTCBB: SOFT) and leading provider of collaborative product data management (PDM) software solutions, today announced that leading packaging equipment supplier Douglas Machine Inc. has selected ProductCenter™ to replace a homegrown data management solution. The company evaluated several other PDM solutions, selecting ProductCenter™ on the strength of its positive customer references, quick deployment, low cost of ownership, as well as its CAD integrations, most notably the ProductCenter SolidWorks Integrator. ProductCenter was sold to Douglas Machine through WTC value-added reseller partner, Applied CAD/CAM.

"We were moving to SolidWorks and needed a solution that could handle the more complex 3D model relationships," states David Lunneborg, Douglas Machine computer-aided design administrator. "Working with our VAR, Applied CAD/CAM, we had a comfort level and confidence that they could help us through our transition from 2D into 3D. To complement SolidWorks, we had looked at multiple PDM products, but decided to focus on the three that seemed to best meet our overall requirements. Applied CAD/CAM took the time to understand our processes and procedures, as well as our goals and expectations, before recommending ProductCenter as the best choice for us."

Douglas Machine will initially utilize ProductCenter for data vaulting and revision control, but plans a three-phase implementation schedule to expand their use of ProductCenter to include ProductCenter™ Workflow and ProductCenter™ BOM Editor for further automation in these areas. In addition to consolidating SolidWorks design data, the company plans to maintain control of other product data within ProductCenter, including customer specifications and numerical control (NC) programs.

"WTC had the most experience we could find managing 3D CAD data," adds Lunneborg. "Other solutions didn't have as much functionality, the bells and whistles we needed, nor were they as easy to expand or grow, as we found with ProductCenter. We were also quite impressed with WTC's people. From our meetings we discerned a high level of integrity within the company, which is extremely important to us."
