SafeNet Merger Creates Demand for Expanded SofTech ProductCenter PLM Implementation
Employees Enterprise-wide Gain Access to ProductCenter PLMTEWKSBURY, Mass. — May 18, 2004 — SofTech, Inc. (OTCBB: SOFT), a leading provider of design-through-manufacturing productivity solutions, announced that SafeNet, Inc., a leading provider of private and public network security solutions, has expanded its SofTech ProductCenter PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) implementation. Additional licenses for ProductCenter PLM solutions from SofTech were purchased to help enhance SafeNet’s product development productivity, as well to coordinate operations and smooth the integration with Rainbow Technologies, Inc. with which SafeNet has recently merged.
“After the merger, SafeNet had a choice to continue using ProductCenter or to explore other competitive options,” states John Cetrone, SafeNet director of operations. “But after careful consideration, we elected to stay with ProductCenter. We’ve found ProductCenter to be robust and flexible to suit our needs for a global enterprise-wide PLM deployment. We were particularly swayed by its ease of implementation and low cost of ownership.”
ProductCenter provides a global, centralized repository for all of SafeNet’s product lifecycle information so that employees, regardless of where they are located, draw on current product information and gain the benefits of PLM productivity. SafeNet security solutions are available in different forms, sold as software, silicon, accelerator cards, network appliances, and intellectual property, so a wide variety of data is managed in the system, including Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, and Autodesk data, quality assurance documents, legal contracts, and certain human resource files. Even SafeNet software is stored under configuration control in ProductCenter.
ProductCenter™ Workflow adds capabilities to automate engineering change notice (ECN) approvals and other product processes, while the ProductCenter™ BOM Editor simplifies bills of material (BOM) creation and changes. Both will standardize product processes across SafeNet facilities throughout the United States, as well as in China and India.
In turn, ProductCenter™ ProductDashboard is expected to speed user adoption of the system, especially among less frequent users, with user-customized PLM portals that deliver product information in job context and for quick navigation of product data and other reference items. Overall, ProductCenter will make it much easier to control, find, and reuse all SafeNet’s product lifecycle information to jumpstart development efforts, shave time off development schedules, cut costs, and accelerate product delivery.
