AMSEC LLC Chooses SofTech ProductCenter PLM for U.S. Navy Logistics Information Management Solution
Cites ProductCenter’s Configuration Management, Scalability, Performance, and Flexibility as Key in Selection CriteriaTEWKSBURY, Mass. — October 18, 2004 — SofTech, Inc. (OTCBB: SOFT), a leading provider of design-through-manufacturing productivity solutions, announced that its ProductCenter™ PLM (product lifecycle management) solution was chosen by Virginia-based AMSEC LLC as a key component in the Technical Data Knowledge Management (TDKM) program for the U.S. Navy. AMSEC LLC, a full service supplier to the commercial and Navy maritime industry, is the prime contractor on this program.
The evaluation process to choose a PLM solution for this program was conducted by system integrator Data Management Systems, Inc. (DMSi). DMSi’s role in the TDKM program as a subcontractor to AMSEC LLC is to aggregate various sources of technical documentation into a central repository in ProductCenter for management of revisions and updates.
“The TDKM system will standardize and improve the efficiency, timeliness, and accuracy of the transmission of technical support and maintenance documentation to our U.S. Navy ships, enhancing the fleet’s readiness,” states Dana McKnight, AMSEC LLC program manager. “When a ship pulls into port and logs into the system, revision levels of on-board documentation will be compared in ProductCenter and then updated to the latest information specific to that vessel, keeping the ship current.”
As to why ProductCenter was selected for this program, David Giusto, president of DMSi, commented, “We had originally gone down the path of a JAVA-based content management solution but soon realized that it wasn’t enough. We needed a more comprehensive solution with in-depth configuration management capabilities like ProductCenter. It needed to deliver much faster performance for the very large volumes of information the system would handle. ProductCenter gave us the capability to manage more complex configurations, the performance, along with programming ease and flexibility.”
